Volunteer Opportunities

The Jasper Community Arts Commission has over 190 active volunteers who contribute thousands of service hours each year in a variety of ways.

JCAC volunteers are special people who serve as ambassadors for the arts and our programs. Our volunteers help to make the arts more accessable and someone's arts experience more enjoyable. Their contribution helps keep the arts and entertainment affordable our community.

Volunteer compensation includes the satisfaction of making a positive contribution to the success of the Center, being involved in the exciting life of the arts and meeting interesting people.

If you have a few hours to donate and would like to spend some time with us at the Jasper Arts Center, contact the appropriate staff person at (812) 482-3070 or use the email links below. All volunteers are asked to complete a volunteer application and participate in an orientation session.

Backstage Crew

Professional touring groups travel with only a skeletal technical supervisory crew. The JCAC relies on local volunteers who serve as a backstage crew to set up and run the performances. Volunteers are assigned to certain duties and report to members of the touring group's management. Some of the voluteer positions include loaders loading and unloading scenery & equipment from trucks/vans, carpenters setting up the stage scenery, platforms, etc., electricians hanging & focusing of lights; followspot & light console operation, sound assist with set up of sound equipment & console operation, props assisting with stage properties, wardrobe assisting with costumes & wigs; steaming, ironing, repair; dressers, runners running errands for the company; transporting bus drivers and hospitality setting up snacks & drinks; making cast & crew comfortable.

The education committee is comprised of community members represented by at least one JCAC board member, teacher and parent representatives from each Jasper school, former arts teachers, student representatives and interested community members. The main functions of the committee are to assist the JCAC in professional arts program selections for the schools, and to act as a direct liaison to the schools and community regarding arts education.

Visual Arts Committee

Members of this committee assist with artists' selections for exhibitions in the Krempp Art Gallery, for the Art Lecture Series and for classes and workshops held at the JCAC art satellite space.

For more information, contact Amy Laakman, Visual Arts Coordinator.

Front House Volunteers

Front house volunteers are the front line of the JCAC performing arts events. They greet patrons and perform a variety of duties including taking tickets, distributing programs and assisting people to their seats. They ensure that our patron's performing arts experiences are more enjoyable.

House volunteers are often needed during the day for our many school programs. We have events which can accomodate almost any schedule. You choose.

To learn more about serving as a front house volunteer, contact Kit Miracle, Executive Director.

Hospitality

Many of our performances are all-day events behind the scenes. Hospitality workers are needed to help with set up and clean up of meals, transport artists, and much more. A great opportunity to meet the artists and feel part of the production

Office workers

We often just need another pair of hands. Stuff envelopes, distribute flyers, answer phones, catch up with filing. No pay but great company!
